Nashoba Valley Medical Center’s New Center for Hand and Plastic Surgery

Nashoba Valley Medical Center (NVMC) is expanding its health care service offerings to the Nashoba Valley community with the opening of its new Center for Hand and Plastic Surgery. The center provides hand surgery procedures, and cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeries.

The wide range of hand surgery procedures offered at the center include: carpal and cubital tunnel release; trigger finger release; all fractures and injuries of the hand and wrist, including tendon and nerve injuries; De Quervain's tenosynovitis; and Dupuytren's contracture. In addition, cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeries include breast reconstruction, augmentation and reconstruction, scar revisions, and skin cancer surgery.

“We are proud to open the Center for Hand and Plastic Surgery and pleased to offer these additional surgical procedures to our patients,” said Salvatore Perla, president of Nashoba Valley Medical Center. “Our surgical services are consistently being evaluated to make sure we are serving the health care needs of our patients.”

NVMC’s Center for Hand and Plastic Surgery also welcomed the addition of Surgeon James Shenko, MD, to the medical staff and surgical team. A board-certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon with more than 15 years of practicing in Central Massachusetts, Dr. Shenko specializes in cosmetic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and has a sub-specialty in hand surgery.

Dr. Shenko completed his surgical residency at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester and fellowships at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Kansas, as well as with Hartford Orthopaedic, Plastic & Hand Surgeon, Inc., in Connecticut. He received his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Dr. Shenko is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the New England Hand Society.

“Dr. Shenko is a welcomed addition to our exceptional team of surgeons,” said Perla. “His diverse background is an asset to our expanding surgical program.”
