Ayer Receives $486,000 in 2015 Tax Revenue From Nashoba Valley Medical Center

One of the Largest Taxpayers in Ayer, Nashoba Valley Medical Center Tax Revenue Provides Vital Support for Local Schools, First Responders, and Municipal Services

Nashoba Valley Medical Center, part of the Steward Health Care system (Steward), announced today that it paid $478,424 in taxes to Ayer for 2015, and an additional $7,758 to neighboring towns, making it one of the largest private taxpayers in the community. As one of the largest taxpayers in Ayer, Steward provides unrivaled financial support for local schools, first responders and municipal services.

These taxes are crucial for Ayer, allowing it to pay for and support the equivalent of the average combined annual salaries of approximately two teachers*, two police officers and two firefighters**. In addition to being one of the largest taxpayers, Steward also remains one of the largest employers in Ayer, employing a total of 500 people locally. Furthermore, Steward spent an additional $26,000 in 2015 on community benefits programs for Ayer residents, including its Stroke Prevention and Diabetes Education programs.

“As a private hospital, Nashoba Valley provides not only first-class care to local residents, it also provides a significant source of revenue to Ayer that contributes to the community’s overall quality of life,” said Salvatore Perla, president of Nashoba Valley Medical Center. “Unlike many of the Boston-based hospitals that do not pay property taxes, as part of the Steward Health Care system, Nashoba Valley provides millions in tax dollars locally.”
