Nashoba Valley Medical Center is Awarded Another “A” Grade for Patient Safety by Independent Industry Watchdog

Ayer, MA – Nashoba Valley Medical Center (NVMC) has been honored with another “A” grade in the Spring 2017 update to the Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog and the nation’s leading experts on patient safety. The Hospital Safety Grade rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. NVMC also received an “A” grade in the Fall 2016 update.

“Receiving another A makes us extremely proud of the work we do every day to ensure the safety of our patients who come to Nashoba Valley Medical Center for their health care needs,” said Salvatore Perla, president of Nashoba Valley Medical Center. “Patient safety is always our top priority, and it is extremely rewarding when our efforts are recognized at this level.”

Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,600 general U.S. hospitals were assigned grades this spring with 823 hospitals receiving an “A” ranking.

“Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, ‘have achieved the highest safety standards in the country,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “That takes commitment from every member of the hospital staff, who all deserve thanks and congratulations when their hospitals achieve an ‘A’ Safety Grade.”
